Seeing that winter never really arrived around here, I’m already thinking ahead to spring flowers and sunny days.

A Pinterest Love Fest

As you may or may not know, I love Pinterest. I’ve used to to plan parties, redecorate rooms, and as a preview of what’s new in the shop… to name a few of the ways.

Instead of just highlighting the things I’m loving though…. Let me introduce you to a few pinners that I’m constantly inspired by.

Van from Rhymes With Fun..She recently moved to Copenhagen. I’m seeing a touch of her new European life in her pins. And I like it. Also we are both expecting boys around the same time, so we are having fun pinning baby stuff at the same time.

The Little Lyric!

The little lyric was going to return this Sunday, but due to scheduling conflicts, the band had to cancel.

Please look for the little lyric to return March 11th, 2012 with a wonderful husband/wife duo from Oxford.

If you are wondering what the little lyric is, well, it’s a concert series for kids. Every second Sunday of each month,

you will have a chance to expose your children to all different types of music, from jazz to indie rock to blues to folk.

Music doesn’t just have to be for adults and children don’t have to just listen to kids music.

Doors are at 12:30 and music is from 1:00-2:00. Refreshments are always available for sale. Price is just $5 a family.

A Lovely Society

“A Lovely Society.” is a new photographic essay by two Southern natives, Mississippi-born photographer/designer/entrepreneur Erin Austen Abbott and Arkansas-born actor/writer Jennifer Pierce Mathus. Created in part from research for Mathus’ forthcoming screenplay, the work features Mississippi Delta beauty queens and belles who held court and held their own between the years of 1955 – 1970.

The creative team wanted to look at this specific timeframe, as these years saw tremendous and remarkable social change across America. And yet in the South, society queens still reigned supreme. During these years, the Mississippi Delta, in particular, produced bumper crops of beauty queens and Southern belles from communities up and down the mighty river, where social issues of the day remained strong undercurrents. Mystic societies and old-line krewes unveiled their loveliest royalty each year. Debutantes from powerful families, many as interested in cotton and commerce as they were cotillion, held fast to the rules of Southern civility and Old South society. These chosen young women were deemed the ones to admire, to know, to date and to marry–blessed in heart and often by birthright.

The essay offers glimpses into the current lives of former debs, queens and secret society members, offering their reflections on their time in the society spotlight. Ultimately, Abbott and Mathus aim to grow the exhibit to feature 20 different women, representing each year, ranging from the “headwaters” of the Delta in Memphis down through Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.

The preview for this show will open at Yalo Studio, 303 N. Main Street, Water Valley, MS 38965, with an opening reception

December 9th from 6-9. Also showing will be to work of Jim Higgins.

The 2012 Motel Art Show Series

The Motel Art Show Series and The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council are pleased to announce that we are now taking submissions for the 2012 year!!

FOR BROOKLYN

In September of 2012, the show will travel to Brooklyn, NY. Dates and motel will be announced at a later date. Submissions for this Brooklyn show will close on June 8, 2012.

FOR OXFORD

In October of 2012, the show will return to Oxford, MS. The show will take place at The Ole Miss Motel, yet exact date will be announced at a later date. Submissions for this Oxford show will close on July 6, 2012.

All entries must be post marked by the close date to be considered for the show. If you would like any of your submission materials returned to you, please include a SASE. Please follow the submission process under ART.
